Procrastination is said to be “the thief of time” a view that is generally accepted for generations now. What I find a bit difficult to explain to myself is how does delaying or postponing an action or decision steal time? Time is always ticking, its always on the the move and hence the possibility of stealing time is far fetched.
Of course, time waits for no one, time keeps ticking away irrespective of one’s readiness.
It is important to get things done within the available time or apportion time to get the most important things done else you miss out on the opportunities that are available within that period. Though the world gives us second chances we could have doubled or tripled our opportunities and outputs if we take advantage of the opportune times available to us.
Most people fail to act or take advantage when they have the opportunity and on many occasion it is not because they are not capable but simply because of the fear of failure. The fear that if they start a business, it cannot compete with established competitors; the fear that if they begin writing a blog, people are going to challenge and criticize their thoughts; fear of venturing into a new role because they might not succeed and hence stay in their comfortable zone; the fear that everything they touch instead of turning to gold burns away in ashes.
In one of the organization I worked, there was this product mantra – Throw 5 balls in the air if two stick that is OK if three stick that is a success.
Setbacks (not failure) are bound to occur in one’s life however every time one is faced with a setback one’s ability to try again or try something new is the beginning of success. On the other hand, not trying again or at all is failure. So, if at first you tried and had a setback try, try again.
So take a step, make a move, begin something that you have been shying away from all this while, it’s all about you and what makes you happy. Build up the confidence and breakout of your shell and “do something before you die”
Remember procrastination is no thief of time; Procrastination is a thief of success.
